About City

Budapestcity, capital of Hungary and seat of Pest megye (county). The city is the political, administrative, industrial, and commercial centre of Hungary. The site has been continuously settled since prehistoric times and is now the home of about one-fifth of the country's population. Budapest is famous for its rich culture, underground caves, staggering architecture, and for being the Spa Capital of the World. The Queen of the Danube is also known for its unique Ruin Bars, gigantic Parliament Building, imposing Great Synagogue, and delectable local cuisine. Budapest is now recognized as one of the most beautiful European cities and a respected World Heritage Site, which includes the banks of the River Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrassy Avenue, Heroes Square, and the Millennium Underground Railway. There is no city like Budapest when it comes to the number of food and cultural festivals. There's everything from fish and mangalitsa festivals in winter to beer, wine, street food, craft and music festivals in summer. Budapest is one of the most stunning cities in Europe. The combination of beautiful Budapest architecture, the spectacular views from Fisherman's Bastion and the Buda side, and the stunning River Danube makes it a fantastic place to explore.

Hungary is also the birthplace of many famous people. Erno Rubik, a sculptor and professor, invented the Rubik's Cube in 1974. Hungary boasts 13 Nobel Prize winners, and magician Harry Houdini was also born in the country's capital, Budapest. The Eastern European country's cuisine primarily consists of meat dishes. Hungary is a landlocked country, situated in the Carpathian Basin. Its two longest rivers called Danube and Tisza divide Hungary into three parts: Transdanubia (to the west of the Danube), the plain between the Rivers Danube and Tisza, and the Trans-Tisza region (to the east of the Tisza). Due to the prosperity and the large Jewish community of the city at the start of the 20th century, Budapest was often called the "Jewish Mecca" or "Judapest".
